Description |
Gymnastics is an artistic sport that requires balance, strength, flexibility, agility, coordination and endurance. The sport embraces eight different disciplines, of which five are on the programme of The World Games. Parkour is a training discipline that uses fluidity of movement and speed. Athletes aim to get from one point to another in a complex environment without assistive equipment and in the fastest and most efficient way possible. To overcome obstacles, athletes must make use of a range of techniques. Moves include running, climbing, swinging, vaulting, jumping, rolling, crawling and other movements deemed suitable for the situation. The World Games 2022 will feature parkour for the first time and will have the Speed event and the freestyle event. |
Goal |
In the Speed event, athletes must overcome obstacles as quickly as possible to reach the finish line in the quickest time. In the Freestyle event, athletes make use of the obstacles to show off their style and creativity as their technical performance is judged. |
Format |
Freestyle- All 12 athletes compete during Qualifications. The best eight athletes qualify for the finals. - Best three athletes in finals will receive Gold, Silver and Bronze. Speed- All 12 athletes compete during Qualifications. The best eight athletes qualify for the semi-finals. - During Semi-Finals, the Highest ranked athletes compete against the lowest ranked athletes. - Four winning semi-finalists as well as the two best losing semi-finalists qualify for the Finals. - Best three athletes of the three final runs will receive Gold, Silver and Bronze. |
Rundown |
SpeedSpeed competitions are organised on two parallel lanes. Two athletes compete at the same time, starting after an audible signal. Athletes will run from one side to the other side of the competition area, overcoming the obstacles on their lane. In the men's competition, athletes need to make a turn at the end and make their way back. The fastest time will win the competition. During Qualifications, athletes have the possibility to do a second run by raising their hand once they have completed the run and seen the time they achieved. For the athletes who have chosen to have a second run, the result of the second run only counts. During knock-out phases such as semi-finals and finals, no second run is possible. In the Finals, the qualified athletes compete in pairs, with 5th/6th ranked athletes starting, followed by 3rd/4th and 1st/2nd ranked athletes. Times are measured 1/1000th of a second and is rounded to 1/100th of a second in favour of the athlete. In case of a tie by 1/1000th of a second, the tie is not broken and both athletes get the same rank. FreestyleAthletes' runs take between 30 and 70 seconds. They may make use of the whole competition area and both lanes used for the Speed competitions. Athletes have the possibility to do a second run by raising their hand once they have completed the run, before the score is shown. In that case, the score of the first run will not count. For the finals, the starting order is established based on the ranking after Qualification, with the best athletes starting last. In case of a tie, the athlete will be ranked higher (in the following order) If there is still a tie, the tie will not be broken. |
Tactics |
The athletes may choose to have a second run. Should they choose a second run, they have to announce it immediately after the end of their course by raising their hand after seeing their time. |
Judging |
In Speed, the chair, start line and time judge as well as one to three check-point judges will compose the judges panel. In Freestyle, a single panel of four to six judges including the chair of the judges' panel will judge the performance of the athlete. Criteria to be judged represent execution and Difficulty (D). More information on the judges can be found here. |
Scoring |
In Freestyle, each of the three categories are marked out of 10. The total score is given out of 30. Judges may not only give full points, but also half points. There is no scoring mechanism applied in Speed. |
