Background Information
Description

Gymnastics is an artistic sport that requires balance, strength, flexibility, agility, coordination and endurance. The sport embraces eight different disciplines, of which five are on the programme of The World Games.

Born in the fitness explosion of the 1970s and 1980s, Aerobic Gymnastics fuses mainstream Aerobic exercise sequences - including its seven basic steps combined with arm movements - with Gymnastics difficulty elements, original/creative transitions, collaborations and interactions between members, and lifts. The routines are inspired by the music, performed in sync with a driving beat and phrases, and using its melody and theme as a whole.

At The World Games 2022, athletes and teams compete in four different squad sizes with two, three, five or eight athletes.

Goal

Pairs and groups receiving the highest score after their performance will be ranked first.

Format

- All Teams/Groups perform one exercise in the qualifications.

- Four top teams qualify for finals to perform one exercise.

- The best athletes will receive Gold, Silver and Bronze.

Rundown

An aerobic routine is performed to music for up to 90 seconds. Routines will typically show clean and balanced movements with perfect technique. The routine will include at least one and up to ten / twelve elements from the four element groups of
- traditional aerobic steps
- dynamic strength elements
- static and strength holds
- jumps and leaps.

The basis of all aerobic routines lies in the performance and combination of seven basic aerobic movements involving both the arms and legs:
- March
- Jog
- Skip
- Knee Lift
- Kick
- Jack
- Lunge

In case of a tie in points at any place in Qualification and Finals, the ranking will be determined by the following criteria:
1. The highest E-score prevails
2. The highest A-score prevails
3. The highest D-score prevails
If there is still a tie, the tie will not be broken and the starting order of the tied ranks for the final is
decided by draw.

Judging

All routines are scored with the combination of 4 scores: Artistic Score, Execution Score, Difficulty Score, Chair Judges Panel Score.

Four Artistic and four Execution judges score the performance.

Athletes are judged on difficulty of aerobic elements, synchronicity in pairs and groups, artistry and lifts (except from Dance).

Deductions are given for falls, incomplete rotations, lack of synchronicity or incorrect body alignment.

More information on the judges can be found here.

Scoring

The final score of a routine is the sum of the difficulty, artistic and execution scores.

The difficulty is usually scored out of 10. However, there is no maximum score.

The artistic and execution score is scored out of 10.

The highest and lowest scores of the four Artistic judges (A-score) and four Execution judges (E-score) are dropped. The remaining scores are averaged and result in the final A-score/E-score, provided that the two middle scores are within the tolerated range. If a bigger deviation than indicated above occurs, then the average of all four scores is the final score.

During the competitions, the difference between the middle scores taken into account may not be greater than:

- 10.00   and    8.00    =    0.3

- 7.99     and    7.00    =    0.4

- 6.99     and    6.00    =    0.5

- 5.99     and    0         =    0.6

The two difficulty judges define the final (D-score). These may deduct points from the total score, together with the Line Judges and the Chair of Judges Panel, to give the FINAL SCORE.

In a case where a judge fails to give a score in time or does not give a score at all, the average of the given scores will replace the missing score.
