Background Information
Trampoline
Description

Gymnastics is an artistic sport that requires balance, strength, flexibility, agility, coordination and endurance. The sport embraces eight different disciplines, of which five are on the programme of The World Games.

Trampoline is a discipline of Gymnastics where athletes perform their skill moves and acrobatics in the air after bouncing off of a trampoline. Of all the Gymnastics disciplines, Trampoline gymnasts get the biggest air and thrilling audiences with their high-flying exploits.

At The World Games 2022, the Double Mini Trampoline and Tumbling events are part of the programme.

A pass on the Double Mini-Trampoline is characterised by high, continuous rhythmic feet to feet rotational jumping elements, without hesitation or intermediate straight bounces.

Tumbling is characterised by continuous speedy, rhythmic hand(s) to feet, and feet to feet, rotational jumping elements without hesitation or intermediate steps.

Goal

The winner is the gymnast with the best score obtained in the final.

Format

- Ten athletes compete in the Qualifying Round. The eight best competitors qualify for the Finals.

- Finals are conducted in two rounds. The eight best gymnasts perform one single exercise. The four best gymnasts will qualify for the second round and do a second exercise.

- The best three competitors receive Gold, Silver and Bronze.

Rundown

Each pass will start on a signal given by the Chair of the Judges Panel. Athletes have two routines per round, the better result counts.

Double Mini Trampoline

The gymnasts run, jump onto the trampoline on the end of the slope, jump onto a flat plateau, then dismount on to a mat. Skills are performed during the jumps or during the dismount. Athletes perform two routines per competition.

A DMT routine or “pass” consists of two phases.

The first phase is called a 'Mount'. During this phase, the athlete jumps onto the angled or flat part and flips off of it onto the flat part. The athlete will either perform a mounting element (first zone) or a spotter element (second zone).

The second phase is called 'Dismount' and starts on the flat part. The athlete lands the first flipping sequences from phase one and immediately launches into a second series of flips and twists before landing on a mat.

Tumbling

Each attempt or “pass” comprises eight elements including back handsprings. whip backs, twisting elements and double or triple salto elements.

The first element of a pass may begin on the run-up, but must land on the tumbling track. A pass must have at least 3 elements to be scored and can be considered interrupted for a variety of reasons, such as the gymnast being out of bounds, the spotter touching the gymnast or a fall during the pass.

In the Qualifications, the first pass must be a salto pass and the second a twist pass.

All passes must end with a somersault, meaning the gymnast must flip at least once in the final skill.

In case of a tie in points at any place in the Qualifying Round, the ranking will be determined by the following criteria:
1. The gymnast with the highest sum of D-score of both exercises prevails.
2. The gymnast with the highest sum of all E-scores of both exercises prevails.
3. The gymnast with the highest sum of all E-scores per skill of both exercises, minus the lowest
4. The gymnast with the highest sum of all E-scores per skill, minus the two lowest E-scores,  and subsequently until the five lowest E-scores, prevails.
If there is still a tie, the tie will not be broken.

In case of a tie, in points at any place in the first round of the Finals (F1), the gymnasts with the highest ranking in the Qualifying Round prevails.
In case of a tie, in points at any place in the second round of the Finals (F2), the gymnasts with the highest ranking in F1 prevails.

Tactics

Some top Double Mini gymnasts take part in Tumbling at the World level and vice versa.

Judging

Double Mini Trampoline

Gymnasts are judged on difficulty of elements, form, height and distance and control on landing.

Deductions are given for incomplete runs, deviating from a straight direction in the air, putting hands down on landing, falling on the landing and landing out of bounds.

Tumbling

Gymnasts are judged on difficulty of elements, execution of elements, height and rhythm as well as control on landing.

Deductions are given for falls, incomplete runs, lack of form, rhythm, height or control, runs that don't end with somersaults and instability after the final element.

More information on the judges can be found here.

Scoring

The athletes are judged on Difficulty and Execution.

The difficulty is usually scored out of 10. However, there is no maximum score for difficulty.

The execution is scored out of 30.

Athletes may incur Penalties for any violations committed during the pass.
