Description |
Gymnastics is an artistic sport that requires balance, strength, flexibility, agility, coordination and endurance. The sport embraces eight different disciplines, of which five are on the programme of The World Games. Rhythmic Gymnastics combines elements of gymnastics, dance and callisthenics. Gymnasts must be strong, flexible, agile, dexterous and coordinated. They perform leaps, balances, pivots, and flexibility movements, along with tossing, catching, rolling and otherwise manipulating the apparatus. Rhythmic Gymnastics is a women's only discipline and includes four apparatus: Hoop, Ball, Clubs and Ribbon. At The World Games 2022, all events will feature as single, individual events. Since 1996, a group all-around competition has been part of the Olympic Games. |
Goal |
Athletes receiving the highest score after their performance will be ranked first. |
Format |
Individual gymnasts present all four exercises corresponding to the four authorized apparatus. - During Qualifications, athletes perform one exercise. - Top eight competitors qualify for the individual apparatus finals. - During Finals, athletes perform again one exercise. The best athletes will receive Gold, Silver and Bronze. |
Rundown |
In competition, the apparatus must remain in motion for the duration of the exercise. Movements must vary in form, magnitude, direction, level and speed. The apparatus must be handled in a variety of ways and may not be used as a decorative accessory. There must be an ongoing relationship between the gymnast and the apparatus. The composition of an exercise is based on certain basic body group movements (leaps, pivots, balance, and flexibility) as well as technical groups. Competitions are between 75 and 90 seconds in length. Specific requirements of the different routines and its sequence are as follows: HoopFundamental requirements of a hoop routine include rotation around the hand or body and rolling, as well as swings, circles, throws, and passes through and over the hoop. BallFundamental elements of a ball routine include throwing, bouncing or rolling. The gymnast must use both hands and work on the whole floor area whilst showing continuous flowing movement. The ball is to emphasize the gymnasts flowing lines and body difficulty. ClubsClubs are thrown from alternate hands; each passes underneath the other clubs and is caught in the opposite hand to the one from which it was thrown. Clubs rotate at least once per throw, but double and triple spins are frequently performed, allowing the club to be thrown higher for more advanced patterns and to allow tricks such as 360s (channes) to be performed underneath. RibbonCompulsory elements for the ribbon include flicks, circles, snakes and spirals, and throws. It requires a high degree of co-ordination to form the spirals and circles, as any knots which may accidentally form in the ribbon are penalized. During a ribbon routine, large, smooth and flowing movements are observed. The ribbon may not stop moving or else points are taken off. In case of a tie, in points at any place on any apparatus, the ranking will be determined by the following criteria: |
Judging |
Gymnasts are judged on their artistry, execution of skills, and difficulty of skills, for which they gain points. In particular, they are judged on jumps and leaps, throws, balances, turns, flexibility and body and apparatus difficulty. Deductions are given for losing control of the apparatus, dropping the apparatus or apparatus going out of bounds. |
Scoring |
The final score of a routine is the sum of the difficulty and execution scores. The difficulty is usually scored out of 10. However, there is no maximum score. The execution score is scored out of 10. |
